Melanie is a volunteer firefighter and when she couldn’t get into the truck because of her weight, she realized something had to be done. She tried a lot of things, but eventually found Diet Doctor, cleaned out the cupboards, and this is what happened: In June 2017, I had to have an MRI on my eyes. I couldn’t get my rings off. Joyce gained a lot of weight due to stressful working conditions. Fortunately she found the keto diet. Here’s what happened in just a couple of months: Hey, I felt I should share my story to motivate someone to hopefully try the low carb diet and regain their self-confidence as I did. I am 25 years old and gained a lot of weight early this year due to stressful working conditions. I was 95 kg (209 lbs). I am so excited and so much more confident with myself. I started the low-carb diet in the last week of April and added in two days of 15 minutes workout just for stretching as I have a desk job and have not gone back since. I checked the scale this week (second week of July) and I am down to 80 kg!!! (176 lbs). I have gone down from a size 16 to a size 12! My goal is at 75 kg (165 lbs) so I still have 5 to lose, but I am so excited and so much more confident with myself. A new Cochrane systematic review shows that fish oil (Omega 3) supplements do NOT improve health or longevity.  The review encompassed 79 randomized trials and included over 112,000 subjects. Lead author Dr. Lee Hooper states, “The review provides good evidence that taking long-chain omega 3 (fish oil, EPA or DHA) supplements does not benefit heart health or reduce our risk of stroke or death from any cause.  The most trustworthy studies consistently showed little or no effect of long-chain omega 3 fats on cardiovascular health.” Fiona Godlee, editor in chief of The BMJ, pens an op-ed entitled “Pills are not the answer to unhealthy lifestyles.” In it, she writes, “… Pills can’t be the answer to diseases caused by unhealthy living. Do you love liver? If you are like almost 50% of Anglo-Western populations, the answer is likely no. In fact, surveys in some countries — UK, US, Canada — regularly find that liver is always among the top five most hated foods, often taking the #1 spot. To me, that’s a shame because various types of liver— beef liver, lamb liver, chicken liver in particular — are an inexpensive, tasty, nutritious food that is great on the low carb keto diet. Many people could be missing out on a powerful addition to their LCHF way of eating because of some preconceived notions or ancient aversions. So this post is an ode to liver. The prevailing wisdom was that skipping meals was an entirely suicidal idea, from a weight standpoint. After all, everybody ‘knew’ that skipping meals would make you so ravenously hungry that you would be helpless to resist stuffing donuts by the box into your mouth. I was a physician, and I ask people to fast all the time. When people go for surgery, they need to fast the night before. When people go for a colonoscopy, they need to fast for 24-48 hours.
