Being tall has its advantages. You're picked first in pick-up basketball. You can date short women and tall women (hey now, double the options!).

But when it comes to your outfits, there are a few things you need to take into consideration, or you risk looking like a giraffe who stumbled through the discount aisle on the way to work. Here are the official rules for how to dress well when you’re over six feet tall.

1. You're wearing ill-fitting off-the-rack dress shirts.

Why you should avoid it: There are way too many variables that go into a good shirt fit. “You want to avoid loose collars, tight shoulders, and short arm lengths, all of which will make you look taller and more giant-like,” says celebrity stylist Michael Fisher. “It's nearly impossible to find all three of these qualities in an off-the rack-shirt, and even hard to fix with tailoring.”

Do this instead: Pay the extra money for a few custom dress shirts. You won’t be sorry when they all fit you like...

Do you often find that, while making a peanut butter sandwich, you just end up lazily spoon-feeding yourself a bunch of PB on the couch? Or maybe you've found yourself sitting in the Taco Bell drive-thru, wondering how you got there, with only a hazy recollection of ordering 10 Cheesy Gordita Crunches just minutes earlier?

Hey: It happens. Nothing ruins a diet plan like catching yourself mindlessly eating all the time—but it's an all-too-familiar situation for people struggling with their weight.

Thankfully, there’s hope for beating the twisted temptations, according to a new study from the University of Sydney in Australia. Researchers there rounded up a bunch of lab rats to figure out how food cues in the environment—billboards, commercials, mall food courts, etc.—influence our eating habits. They also wanted to figure out how hard are those bad habits to break.

To start, they gathered a bunch of junk food—gummy worms, Oreos, Pringles—plus some bland rat kibble,...

13 negative side effects of not getting enough protein

Here's the hard truth: Most of us don't get enough protein. Alternatively, some guys think "the more protein, the better," and over-consume it when they do sit down to eat, chomping down a 30g protein bar and washing it down with a protein shake that's got upwards of 50g, says Jordan Mazur, M.S., R.D., director of sports nutrition at the University of California, Berkeley.

To put it bluntly: Both are bad.

Everyone has a protein intake ceiling. It varies with your height and weight, but most people can absorb at most 30-42g per meal. Any more, and your body can't use it to build and repair muscle—so the surplus is stored as fat. "But getting the 'right' amount of protein depends on many factors, including your activity levels, age, muscle mass, and current state of health," Mazur says. "Make sure to consult with a sports registered dietician to find out the right amount for you," he recommends.

If your diet is low in protein, you might not exhibit any symptoms, and you...

Meta-Analysis: Physical Activity Not Effective for Treating Overweight Children

Is it possible to lose weight without starvation? FREE Download: Ketogenic Diet Book » KetoVIP.

Focusing on physical activity has no effect on treating childhood overweight and obesity, according to a new meta-analysis. Not only is exercise not very helpful in controlling weight in the first place. It also turns out that overweight kids don’t really increase their physical activity in studies that try to get them to do so: Obesity Review: Effectiveness of Interventions on Physical Activity in Overweight or Obese Children: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis Including Studies with Objectively Measured Outcomes. This means a double failure for the simplistic “let’s move” mentality. Once again: you can’t outrun a bad diet. And kids, it seems, can’t even be forced to run in the first place (if anyone really thought that was a good idea). Please note that I’m not advocating for sedentary lifestyles. I’m just pointing out that the ‘eat less, run more’ dogma is outdated. Physical activity is important for health, but has a negligible effect on weight....
