Liver transplants are on the rise among young US adults. And the most prominent reason is the explosion in non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), which now affects one in three adults and one in ten children. Following the childhood obesity explosion in the ’80s and ’90s, we’re seeing young adults with old bodies. Although they’re 30, their organs are sick. Researchers analyzed data from more than 7,000 men and women from a 22-year survey of British civil servants for the study, which appeared in the journal Scientific Reports. They found that men who consumed a lot of sugar—more than 67g daily—were 23% more likely to develop a mental disorder after five years compared to those who consumed less than 39.5g a day. And that's after the researchers filtered out results linked to other health factors, like behavior, demographics, diet, obesity, and disease.

Four regular deviled eggs have about as much mayo as a turkey sandwich. But deviled eggs are all about that delicious yolk, so keep that, but replace the mayo with Greek yogurt. You won’t really notice the difference in flavor, but you will cut calories by a third.

1/2 cup Greek yogurt
2 tsp mustard
3 Tbsp chopped onions
3 Tbsp diced peppers
1 tsp paprika
How to make it 

Hard-boil a dozen eggs, let cool, and peel.

Cut each egg in half lengthwise. Remove yolks, add to a bowl, and mash.

Add 1/2 cup yogurt and 2 tsp mustard, and mix well.

Fill each halved egg white with yolk mixture; top with chopped onions, diced peppers, and paprika.

Recipe: How to Make Vegan Rice Noodle Miso Soup

Believe it or not, miso soup is not traditionally vegan. But luckily for those of you on a plant-based diet, this particular version is loaded up with mushrooms, bell peppers, green onions, and absolutely no animal products.

Ingredients 
2 cups collard greens
4 shiitake mushrooms, sliced
½ red bell pepper, sliced
1 green onion, chopped
1 serving rice noodles
½ cup cooked white beans
2 tsp miso paste
2 cups vegetable broth
How to make it 

Bring the broth to a boil in a pot.

Remove from the stovetop, and add all the other ingredients except the beans. Stir well, and cover with a lid. Note: Make sure you read the instructions on the rice noodle package. Most brands are cooked this way, but some may require the noodles to be boiled with the water instead of just being covered with...
